PERSONALITY Elsie lacks social skills, for the most part. She’s headstrong, confident in her own abilities, and more than willing to go head to head with anyone who disagrees with her. Unusually for the times, she find it hard to bow to the social conventions of male-dominated society simply because she was always allowed to boss around the farm hands, and pretty much anyone who wasn’t an expert at dealing with any of the creatures on the farm. Elsie loves music, Quidditch, duelling and anything that lets her get dirty.HISTORY Elsie comes from a family of farmers, who own a property larger than New Zealand in the Australian Outback. Unlike most farmers though, the livestock that her family kept were of a more magical nature. From Sand-dragons to bowtruckles, and all kinds of strange and dangerous plants, they are responsible for providing a good portion of the wizarding world’s potion ingredients. Elsie is used to getting dirty, set on fire, almost drowned, and spent the first twelve years of her life knowing only her siblings and the small army of labourers and other magical workers that resided on the farm. Elsie and her sisters dominated the farm, and by the time that the oldest of them was ten, they would often spend days by themselves in some far-flung field, taking care of a neglected herd, or harvesting some herbs from some of the wild forests on the family’s land. Her three older sibling were sent to the Australian Institute for Adolescent Witches and Wizards, but her mother decided that Elsie’s particular brand of fire would need a much stronger hand than the Australian instructors were known for giving. Her father disagreed, but relented after a couple of disastrous years there, including a brief coup that had stopped all teaching for two weeks. The family tossed up between a few different schools, but Cascade was eventually selected, as Elsie’s grandfather insisted that it was one of the best schools of magic around. This is Elsie’s first year at Cascade, and she’s more than a little bit grumpy to be so far away from home. Did you read the rules? Sure I did! |
